How to Sell Printable Planners on Etsy: Pages, Files and Listings
Sell printable planners on Etsy: pick a niche, choose page types, make undated PDFs in Letter and A4, write the listing and tags, and work out fees per sale.

Printable planners are one of the most common digital downloads on Etsy, which means two things: buyers know exactly what they want, and there is a lot of competition. The listings that hold up are the ones with a clear niche, pages that are actually useful, files that print well on the buyer's paper, and a listing that shows what is inside. This guide covers how to sell printable planners on Etsy step by step: niche, page types, files, listing, tags and fees.
In short: pick one niche (budget, meal, teacher, reading…), build an undated planner of 30 to 90 pages from page types that niche needs, export PDFs in US Letter and A4, show real pages in the listing photos, use all 13 tags, and work out Etsy's fees per sale before you set a price.
What do you need to sell printable planners on Etsy?
An Etsy shop, a planner maker that exports print-ready PDFs at the paper sizes buyers use, and a few listing images. The DT Labs planner maker builds whole undated planners from 24 page types or from 8 ready niche planners, in your browser, and the exports carry a commercial licence for Etsy and KDP.
Etsy's Creativity Standards ask sellers to design what they sell. Building your own planner from page types and choosing its layout is designing; reselling a pack of pages someone else designed is not. Read Etsy's current standards for digital items before you list.
Which planner niche should you choose?
A general "2027 planner" competes with thousands of listings. A niche planner tells a specific buyer that it is for them.
| Niche | Pages it needs |
|---|---|
| Budget planner | Monthly budget, expense log, savings challenge, monthly calendar |
| Meal planner | Weekly meal plan, shopping list, recipe pages |
| Self-care and gratitude | Gratitude journal, mood tracker, water and sleep tracker, habit tracker |
| Faith and prayer journal | Prayer and reflection, gratitude, notes |
| 90-day habit planner | Habit trackers, goal setting, weekly plans |
| Teacher planner | Weekly lesson plans, class attendance, monthly calendar |
| Reading journal | Reading log, book review pages |
| Everyday planner | Year at a glance, monthly, weekly, to-do, habits |
Pick one and make it complete, rather than one planner that tries to be everything.
Which pages should a printable planner include?

Start with the pages your niche needs, then add the structure every planner has: a title page, a year-at-a-glance or monthly overview, and a few notes or lined pages at the end. Order matters — buyers print in order and expect sections to follow each other.
Dated or undated?
Undated. A dated 2027 planner only sells for a few months; an undated one sells all year and never goes out of date. Monthly calendars with blank date boxes let buyers start any month.

How many pages?
Three common sizes, which also make good price tiers:
- About 30 pages — a starter planner, or a low-priced single-niche insert.
- About 60 pages — a full planner for half a year of weeks.
- About 90 pages — a premium planner with 52 weekly spreads.
Writing rows need enough height to write in — about 0.28 in or more. Cramped rows are a common complaint in reviews.
What files and paper sizes should you upload?
Etsy lets you attach up to five files to a digital listing, each up to 20 MB (check Etsy's help pages, as limits can change). Use them for paper sizes:
- US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) for buyers in the US and Canada.
- A4 for buyers almost everywhere else.
- Half Letter (5.5 × 8.5 in) or A5 for buyers who put inserts in a ring binder.
Name the files clearly ("Budget-Planner-US-Letter.pdf", "Budget-Planner-A4.pdf") and add a one-page "how to print" note: print at 100% or "actual size", and choose double-sided if they want a booklet.
The same interior can also become a paperback planner on KDP — choose a KDP trim size such as 6 × 9 in or 8.5 × 11 in instead; see trim size for puzzle books for how trim size affects printing cost.
How do you write the Etsy listing?
- Title: lead with what it is and who it is for — "Undated Budget Planner Printable, Monthly Budget, Expense Tracker, Savings Challenge, US Letter and A4".
- Photos: show real pages, flat and in a simple mockup, and one image listing every page type and the page count. Buyers want to see what they will print.
- Description: say it is a digital download (no physical item will be shipped), list the pages, the paper sizes and the file format, and how to print.
- Tags: use all 13. The DT Labs planner maker suggests seven keyword phrases for each niche — "budget planner", "monthly budget printable", "expense tracker" and so on — as a starting point.
Keep claims factual: what the planner contains and how it is used. Avoid "best" or promises about what it will do for the buyer.
How much does Etsy charge per sale?
At the time of writing, Etsy's main fees for a US seller are a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the sale price, and payment processing of about 3% + $0.25. On a $6.00 planner that is about:
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 |
| Transaction (6.5%) | $0.39 |
| Payment processing (3% + $0.25) | $0.43 |
| Total | about $1.02 |
That is a per-sale example, not a forecast — and it leaves out Offsite Ads, currency conversion and taxes, which can apply. Fees change and differ by country, so check Etsy's fee page for your shop before you set prices.
