Every ship of the fleet shown under the grid is hidden in it. Ships lie straight, across or down, and never touch each other, not even at a corner. The number beside each row and under each column says how many of its squares are ship squares. Mark water with a dot, shade ship squares, and use the given squares: a circle is a one-square ship, a rounded end is the end of a ship and a square is a middle.
Which size should I print?
The 6 × 6 set hides six ships and gives plenty of squares — a good first try. The 8 × 8 set hides eight ships. The 10 × 10 set uses the classic ten-ship fleet (one of 4 squares, two of 3, three of 2 and four of 1) with very few given squares.
What is a good first move?
Rows and columns with a count of 0 are all water, so dot them first. Then fill in water around every given ship square, because ships never touch. After that, ask where the largest ship can still fit.
Can I make my own?
Yes. These puzzles were made with the DT Labs bimaru puzzle generator. Choose a grid from 6 × 6 to 15 × 15, each with a fleet sized to it, set the difficulty or let it rise through the book, and export a whole book with solutions. Exports come with a commercial licence for KDP and Etsy.
