December is the busiest month of the year for anyone who plans activities for older adults. A Christmas party, a carol afternoon, a quiet morning with a puzzle — each needs something easy to prepare that everyone can join. Here are Christmas activities for seniors at home, in care homes and in church and community groups, each with a free large print page you can print today.
In short: run Christmas bingo as the main group event, hand out large print Christmas word searches, solve carol cryptograms and then sing the carol, and save ornament mandalas for a quiet coloring hour. Everything below is in our free Christmas printables, with answers and no sign-up.
1. Christmas bingo
Bingo is the easiest activity for a room full of people. The Christmas bingo cards are 30 different 5 × 5 cards with Christmas words — candle, carol, stocking, wreath, sleigh — and a caller sheet to tick as you go.
- Print one card per player on card stock, or slip the cards into sheet protectors and use dry-erase markers.
- Read each word slowly and say it twice. Ticking the caller sheet lets you check a winning card in seconds.
- Small prizes are optional — a chocolate, a cracker, or choosing the next carol.

2. Large print Christmas word searches
Ten themes in large print: Christmas Eve, decorations, Christmas baking, gifts and toys, Santa's workshop, reindeer, winter weather, the nativity, carols and winter clothes. Each puzzle is one per page with the answers at the back. They are the simplest activity to hand out — nobody needs instructions. Find them under Christmas word search; for year-round themes, see the large print word searches.
3. Carol cryptograms, then sing
A cryptogram swaps every letter for another; you crack the code to reveal a line. The Christmas cryptograms hide lines from carols and classic Christmas writing — "Silent night, holy night", "Joy to the world", "O come, all ye faithful", and "God bless us, every one!" from A Christmas Carol — in large print with a letter key under each puzzle.

Once a line is solved, sing the carol together. It turns a puzzle into a group activity, and most people know the words.
4. Christmas crosswords
Ten clue crosswords with everyday clues such as "wax stick with a wick" and "month of the winter holidays". They work alone or in pairs, with one person reading the clues and the other filling in. Find them in the Christmas crosswords.
5. Ornament mandala coloring
The Christmas mandalas are designs inside stars, bells, snowflakes and round ornaments, one per page. Coloring needs no instructions and suits a quiet morning. Colored pencils work better than markers on plain printer paper, and finished pages make simple decorations for a noticeboard.
6. A Christmas memories word list
Give everyone a blank sheet and five minutes to write down Christmas words that mean something to them — a dish, a tradition, a place. Read the lists aloud and compare. It is an easy warm-up before bingo, and the lists often start long conversations.
7. A puzzle from the group's own words
Collect twelve of those words and turn them into a large print word search with the free word search maker. Print a copy for each person for the next session. A puzzle made from the group's own Christmas words is usually the one people keep.
8. Christmas cards with a puzzle inside
Fold a word search or crossword into a card and add a short message. Residents can send them to family, or the group can make them for visitors. It is a small gift that takes ten minutes to prepare.

Printing tips for large print pages
- Paper: US Letter at actual size, or A4 with "Fit" selected.
- Contrast: everything is black on white; print in black ink only for the sharpest letters.
- Pens: a soft pencil or a felt-tip pen is easier to see than a ballpoint.
- Answers are at the back of every puzzle PDF — print them separately for the activity leader.
- Reuse: card stock or sheet protectors make bingo cards last the whole season.
